In Dattatreya tradition, Paduka Archana (worshipping the holy feet/sandals) has been ascribed utmost importance. The following sloka describes the greatness of Guru-padukas.

   Sri Bhooyuta Srihari Chihnithaabhyaam
   Agasthya Rekhaadibhiranchithaabhyaam
   Nigoodha Beejaakshara Mudrithaabhyaam
   Namo Namah Sadguru Paadukaabhyaam

Theme:
In these padukas (feet/sandals):
There are lines indicating the presence of Srihari (Lord Vishnu) along with Sridevi and Bhudevi.
There are impressions indicating the lines of great saints like Agasthya.
There are imprints of the most potent sacred seed syllables (beeja aksharas.)
Let us bow to these padukas with reverence.
The Datta tradition exhorts eternal prayer to the Guru’s padukas with reverence and complete surrender (“Sharanaagathi”).

Sadguru:

Sadguru is one who destroys ignorance. Sadguru also directs us in the right path to the God, who is nothing but the Ultimate Truth. We should always contemplate on (smarana) the Sadguru. This is the easiest way to Liberation. The Divine body of Sadguru houses abundant spiritual energy. This spiritual energy is especially concentrated in hands and feet. Guru blesses the disciple by placing his hand charged with his Yogic Energy on the disciple’s head. By this, the disciple becomes enlightened. Guru’s Yogic Energy is concentrated in his feet. Disciples can obtain this energy and become enlightened by worshipping the Guru’s padukas. As per the Sanskrit saying “Gnanadevahi Kaivalyam”, it is through enlightenment that one attains liberation (Kaivalyam/Moksha.) It thus follows that through the reverential touch of Guru padukas, disciple attains liberation. The disciple, thus liberated, becomes a Guru himself and leads his disciples in the path of liberation. This is the unending and recurring tradition of master-disciple or “Guru-Sishya Parampara”.

The Supreme Authority of Avadhoota Datta Peetham Sri Sri Sri Ganapathi Sachchidanada Swamiji consecrated Sri Datta Padukas in the premises of Datta Ashrama in Machilipatnam on Sunday, January 12, 1986. They have ever since become instrumental for the people of this town in ascending the ladder of liberation. The padukas consecrated by Sri Swamiji’s golden hands on that auspicious day belong to Sri Narasimha Saraswati. These are the very padukas we worship daily with Abhiskeham and Archana in the Datta Ashrama, Machilipatnam.
