The specialty of Datta Ashrama is that all the Hindu festivals are celebrated with great fervor thereby fostering devotion among the public. Everyday, the daily pujas as conducted at 6 am and the temple is kept open for public. From 6 am till 12 noon and again from 5:30 pm till 8:30 pm, the devotees can visit the Ashrama and offer prayers such as performing Abhiskeham to Sri Datta Padukas, worship Sri Dattatreya, Sri Karya Sidhdhi Hanuman etc. A description of the various activities conducted in the Ashrama follows.

Rathothsavam:

Dattatreya Jayanthi -birthday of Lord Dattatreya- falls on the full-moon day of Margasira month. On that day along with prayers, Homas, Abhishekas (including Taila-Abhisheka i.e. Abhishekam with Oil) and discourses, a Chariot Festival is conducted as a special celebration. An idol (Utsava vigraham) of Sri Dattatreya is placed in a chariot and is taken as a procession through the streets of Machilipatnam.

Dasara:

Dasara is celebrated in Sri Datta Ashrama with great splendor for 10 days. The Goddess is worshipped with Lalita Sahasra Nama stotram and puja with vermillion. The Goddess' idol is decorated every day as Her unique incarnation of that day and specific pujas are performed and discourses rendered by eminent scholars. Competitions are conducted for students in chanting and reciting stotrams and prizes are distributed. There is no entry bar for students to participate in these competitions. There are many instances of students belonging to Muslim and Christian communities winning prizes in these competitions. Every year over a thousand students take part in these competitions.

Anagha Astami:

On the eighth day of the second fortnight of every month (bahula paksham) Sri Dattatreya along with Anagha Devi is worshipped. Quite like the Satyanarayana Swamy Vratam this Anaghaastami Vratam is also observed by the devotees with utmost reverence. “Agha” means sin. “Anagha” means annihilation of sins. Bhavishyat puranam (one of the eighteen great epics) declares that by performing this vratam, all sins are wiped out. Over the ages, this vratam has lost prominence among people. Sri Swamiji has renovated and popularized it. Also, He granted that people of all communities could perform this vratam. People from Machilipatnam as well as surrounding areas visit Sri Datta Ashrama to perform this vratam and feel extremely gratified. The devotees performing Anaghastami vratham are served with free food on the occasion in the Ashrama.

Emperor Karthaveeryarjuna of the Krita Yuga was the first to perform this vratam. He is a dear disciple of Sri Dattatreya and hence Sri Datta Swamy himself presided over this vratam for Karthaveeryarjuna. This emporer enjoined that all his citizens should perform this vratam. Karthaveeryarjuna ruled his kingdom righteously for 77 thousand years and attained the name of “Maha yoga chakravarthi” (emperor of immense Yogic energy.)

Toli Ekadasi:

On this auspicious day, Satyanarayana Swamy Vratam is performed in the Ashrama and devotees can participate en masse.
